This is one of the first questions I help clients work through, because the two solve different problems — and building the wrong one wastes both time and budget.
If people mainly need to read about your business, browse a menu or catalogue, fill in a contact form, or find your location, a responsive website covers all of that — accessible instantly from any phone browser, with nothing to install.
Apps earn their place when there's a real reason for someone to open the same tool repeatedly — bookings, order tracking, loyalty points, push notifications, or work that needs to happen offline. If your product is something people use daily or weekly, an app builds a habit a website can't.
I build mobile apps with React Native, which shares a single codebase across Android and iOS. That means one build instead of two separate native apps, a faster timeline, and a lower cost — without giving up a native look and feel.
An app is only as good as the data behind it. I pair every app with a Node.js/Express backend and a MySQL or MongoDB database, so the same backend can power your website and your app together, staying in sync automatically.
Ask yourself: will someone open this again next week without being reminded? If yes, an app is worth the investment. If it's mainly information people check once or twice, a mobile-friendly website will do the job for a fraction of the cost.
